The Project - Physical Progress
The project construction period of the 68 km Bharuch – Samni – Dahej Gauge Conversion project is planned to be less than two years. The objective is to synchronize, to the extent possible, the completion of this gauge conversion project with the completion of the jetty of the Adani Petronet (Dahej) Port Pvt. Ltd. which is already under construction. The company is also required to construct a private siding from Dahej Station and a Rail yard in their Stacking area apart from installing quay side, stacking yard and wagon loading handling equipment. The company is currently finalizing acquisition of land for the railway siding.
The construction of the port is expected to be completed by March/April 2010 and according to information given by the port authorities it will be in a position to handle commercial traffic by June 2010. The Bharuch Dahej Broad gauge Railway line is targeted to be ready by March 2011. In the interim the port will be able to build ground stocks of coal in their stacking yard.
Based on the above completion date, the gauge conversion project is on schedule. Satisfactory progress has been made with respect of a number of issues e.g. joint inventory of track and bridges, joint levels, drawings for execution, finalization of sources for construction material viz.,earth, ballast and blanketing, mobilization of execution units, survey, construction of quarters as well as bridges etc.
Further, a pre-cast yard has been set up at Samni for bridges platform well etc., Project Stores has been established at Samni and location had been identified for the Site Offices.

Cumulative Physical Progress includes 5.96 lakh Cum. of earthwork or 80% of total requirement, blanketing – 2.73 lakh Cum. (71.0%), 61.7% of 180000 Cum. ballast requirement has been received, 65 of 94 minor bridges have been completed. Progress on the three major bridges has been about 60%. Track linking has been done on 3.8 km out of a total length of 66 km. Construction on 7 Station buildings is 60% complete and work is in progress on 56 Type II Quarters (66% complete) and 4 Type IV Quarters (90% compete). Work on the foundation of the Traction Sub Station at Vagra further progressed during the month. With respect to OHE foundation 365 out of 1670 main foundation and 72 out of 271 anchor foundations have been completed. Work continues to be adversely affected by the monsoons.
Overall, physical progress of the project to end of July 2010 is 56%.
